8600 GTS & The PC Game Hunt
Last week I ordered this bad boy from Newegg.com and doesn’t it look sweet! The Nvidia 8600 GTS has 512MB of memory, Dual DVI with HDTV output (S-Video, Composite, Component). Yes, there are more powerful video cards out there but I wanted something that cost less than $250 and that I could easily buy again to use the SLI capability.
The 8600 GTS installed with no problem into my Thermaltake Armor tower and the CD installation was a breeze. The card runs very quietly so far. After updating my drivers online, I was good to go with one exception – I had no PC games to test my new card out on! Granted there’s WoW, but that’s not a graphics hog by any means, although I am considering cancelling my account soon (that’s a whole other post in itself). And then there’s Sims 2 which can be a hog but that’s due to the crap way it was coded (I fully blame EA).
Have I seriously been so into console gaming that I have no clue what good PC games are out? I guess so; my new mission is to find some new PC games to buy or try out. You can help me out too – any new titles you’ve played that you like feel free to suggest them. Just note I am trying to stay away from titles that can be played on the console, such as COD4, Assassin’s Creed, etc.
So ends this semi-review, until I can get some cool games to dump on this new card. Enjoy the slideshow below of my PC and the new card.

just get oblivion .. it doesnt matter. theres nothing thats really killing me to look at on the PC right now, i keep playing old games and turning the graphics up on mine. im going to try and find something worth playing with high quality graphics… when i find something sick. ill let you know.
btw, wow is pretty tough on the graphics card once you start amping it up and raiding. some of the spell effects in TK and MgT had me drooling with awe.
MadLion the video card looks sweet as all hell!!! I blew mine out last year and I need to purchase one and have it installed. I’ll probably just have the Geek Squad do mine because I have no experience with building PC’s. So back to online games…well I love Shadowbane…the gaming experience was like no other that I’ve played in the past. In fact; prior to installing the game to my pc, my gaming experience came soley from my X-box. I tell you what, the game is free unlike the other P2P’s such as WoW. You become a part of the online gaming community. UBI are the masterminds behind the game, and I’d have to say that other games such as Tomb Raider with our very own Lara Craft come to mind when I think of UBI, so there track record speaks for itself to some extent. There was a server wipe done on all servers on 3/25/08, so everything is relatively new with the Server. Like I mentioned earlier about my video card, I don’t have my tower operating presently but I’ll have it together in May, so if anyone who reads this is interested in at least downloading and creating a toon…do it and I’ll see you there. I’ll be on the Saedron server which is more of a lore play server as apposed to the other two servers. The website for the general forums is http://chronicle.ubi.com and the direct link to download the game (It takes a hot minute for all the data to download just to give you a heads up) is [link] From this point you should be able to follow the steps. As a disclaimer I’d like to point out that I by no means am being paid by UBI for promoting the game, I’m simply getting the word out that for a free game it’s worth at least running a toon and getting hooked up with a guild. MadLion, you know where you can find me if you’re interested. I’ll talk to my friend about getting us both in at the same time. Zodiac signing out..PLAY TO CRUSH!!!!
