PsP Accessory Review: Proporta Aluminum-lined Leather Flip Cover
Sony’s PsP is known for its big, beautiful screen, and thankfully Sony has equipped that screen with a protective layer. Still, PsP fans know that it’s important to protect the screen from unwanted scratches, and there are various ways to do this, from pouches to screen protective films. Proporta’s Aluminum-lined Leather Flip Cover is a compact way to protect your screen, not just from scratches, but from impacts.
To apply the flip cover, you screw it in to the PsP’s accessories port at the top of the unit using the supplied screws, which fit the openings. This provides a sturdy bond with the PsP and ensures that the flip cover won’t come off. The flip cover then rests flush over the PsP’s entire front face, covering the screen and the face buttons, dpad, and analog nub. When using the PsP, you pull the flip cover back and for the most part, it stays out of your way, though depending on how you hold the PsP, it might rest slightly on the back of the device. With the cover over the screen, you still have access to the UMD slot and the infrared port, though you will need to flip back the cover to use the USB port.
In my tests with the flip cover, I found the aluminum lining to be good protection against shock from falls or any other blows your PsP might receive. It’s not as protective as a pouch, since the back of the PsP remains exposed, but it’s more portable than a pouch. You can still slip your PsP into your pocket and not worry about scratches to the screen or wear on the buttons or the analog nub. The hard aluminum is covered by soft genuine leather, a classy feature that feels great to the touch. The PsP is already a very slick looking device, and the leather flip cover is a stylish complement to it that protects your screen and buttons from scratches and general wear and tear. The Aluminum-Lined Leather Flip Cover is available from Proporta.com.
